Banyana Banyana’s captain Janine van Wyk said that messages of support from fans ‘has skyrocketed’ ahead of the Fifa Women’s World Cup starting on June 7 in France.

After winning the Cosafa Women’s Championship two years in succession and finishing runners-up at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, Van Wyk said the team were on a high, and also said they were grateful for the help they receive from sponsors Sasol.

“As a team, there’s nothing more inspiring than fans supporting and cheering for us on and off the field. The messages of support will definitely give us a boost as we prepare for the biggest moment in our careers.

“I’d like to urge all South Africans to show their love for the team because this is truly what keeps us going.  I can assure you that we will do our best to try and read every message, and we appreciate those you have already sent,” she said.

Sasol’s marketing manager Nozipho Mbatha said: “As Sasol, we appreciate this as a team.

“Throughout the 11 years that we have been sponsoring Banyana we have witnessed the highs and the lows, but most importantly we are extremely proud to see them jetting off to the global stage. ”
